Explora CHILE & Bolivia
The Chilean and Bolivian Altiplanos & the Salar de Uyuni
This expedition brings you to the San Pedro oasis in the midst of the Atacama Desert - undoubtedly a last frontier. In spite of its aridity and extravagance, it is an environment where man can live while conserving its large spaces. The altiplano reaches heights over 3,600 meters (11,800 ft.) and at its furthest point, the Salar de Uyuni, is a continuation of the Atacama in that, it provokes the imagination and provides romantic memories of purity and vastness.

Breaking through the vastness of this rough, deserted territory, is the Salar de Uyuni, the largest and highest-altitude salt flat in the world. Here Explora will make your home for several days and go on different treks around the area. The journey will take you through valleys in between mountains, passing by volcanos, geothermal plains, lagoons and wetlands, where we will find a surprising range of wildlfe, with many species endemic to the area. Explora will lead you into the altiplano, following roads which pass through deserted towns, where we will be able to observe ancient ways of life and unique Uyuni travel. From the Chilean altiplano, Explora will guide you down to San Pedro oasis, where you will use Hotel de Larache as a base to explore deep into Atacama's natural and cultural richness.
