Amanjiwo
Java, Indonesia
Amanjiwo (peaceful soul) overlooks Borobudur, the world?s largest Buddhist sanctuary, in the rural heartland of Central Java. Located in one of the most scenic parts of the country, it rests within a natural amphitheatre; the Menoreh Hills rise up behind and no less than four volcanoes grace the horizon (Sumbing and Sundoro to the west, Merbabu and Merapi to the east). Amanjiwo?s main building is framed by 36 suites set in two graceful crescents around the central Rotunda. Limestone walls give shape to stone walkways that link the suites to the main building, the swimming pool and the Dalem Jiwo Suite.

Amanjiwo provides the opportunity for immersion in Javanese culture, offering trips to ceremonies, temples and antique shops. Private dawn and sunset visits to Borobudur and other archeological monuments in the vicinity are a highlight of a stay at Amanjiwo. Amanjiwo looks out onto the 9th-century Buddhist sanctuary of Borobudur, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Several villages are within walking distance of the resort.
